THE BEST URBAN BEACHES IN LONDON

This Thameside urban beach is BYOB, and perfect for lazy summer days in Fulham. The place is decked out with street food vendors, swings, free-to-use deckchairs and truckloads of sand. Entry is £5, but if you want that VIP, full-on resting beach face experience, you can pay extra to hire beach huts, partybeds or your own ‘Beach Butler’.

Brixton is bringing a little Havana life to SW9 this summer with its rooftop urban beach. The Piña Coladas, Cubanitos and Mojitos will be flowing in a space decorated with mint and exotic flowers. For grub, there’ll be a rotating choice of street food vendors, with mac ‘n’ cheese bites from Mac to the Future and dishes from Dirty Bones, Mama’s Jerk and Negril.

There’s no need to travel to the coast if you’re after a sandy evening stroll this summer, as hundreds of tonnes of the golden stuff have been transported to the Brent Cross shopping centre. As well as their host of new water rides, fairground rides, deck chairs, fish and chips stands and candyfloss stalls, the beach will also feature a programme of outdoor cinema screenings.

Summer’s coming to Hampstead’s urban beach, with golden sand, amazing food and cocktails to set the mood for long evenings of sun, fun and holiday vibes.

Hampstead Beach comes back to JW3 for the third time; has free entry and will be open from Sunday to Friday. Special events taking place on the beach throughout the summer will be announced soon.

This temporary stretch of sand beneath the Emirates Cable Car comes complete with a spectacular view – albeit of the city skyline rather than the far horizon. Sink into a deckchair with an ice cream and a newspaper or get busy building a sandcastle
